Sensitivity as a Misunderstood Gift
Dear everyone,
I am new to Substack and looking forward to connecting here and sharing my thoughts. Feel free to hit reply—I’ll do my best to respond.
I have recently decided that after 20 years of working with complex vertigo and tinnitus cases, it’s time for me to expand. I hope you enjoy my conversations around living with the body as a compass, embracing the wisdom of high sensitivity and how I believe intuition is necessary for our humanity and collective wellbeing.
I would say that all of my vertigo, dizziness and tinnitus clients share a sense of living with unusual high sensitivity. Doctors are stumped. Life is hard. Medications rarely help. There is no fix.
They share a confusion about how to live fully and how to make sense of themselves while their bodies are pinging metaphorically with an internal disco and strobe lights.
They feel stuck, ashamed and tired of their body bombarding them with random sensations. What can they do?
So, this is my new professional focus.
I have written my second book, Sensing Ground: Body Wisdom for Highly Sensitive People to Feel Less Alone and More Alive, to follow on from my first book, Rock Steady: Healing Vertigo or Tinnitus with Neuroplasticity.
Beyond just vertigo and tinnitus, this conversation extends toward anyone with bodily sensations that are frustrating—I want to support you to understand your body as a compass.
I want you to see light in the depths of darkness and to have the skills to move gracefully through intense difficulties. Sensing Ground is the map that offers a path towards your own wisdom, insight and grounded intuition.
You are a Sacred part of our world and your body is literally interpreting the world around you using its eight senses: taste, touch, smell, sight (including inner sight), hearing (including internal sounds), proprioception (location and orientation of your body and consciousness), vestibular (balance and movement), and interoception (bodily cues and emotions).
Your body is capturing wisdom 24/7.
Are you attuned to it?
If you are suffering with any bodily discomfort, I want you to turn towards your senses, with loving attention—not away from yourself towards the clutter and noise of the outer world.
Find your wisdom by heeding your intuition. Intuition is the insight that naturally surfaces through consciously connecting to your eight senses.
This might sound out of reach, but let me assure you—these are teachable skills and I’ve seen many people quickly acquire them.
Sensitivity as a Misunderstood Gift
Too often, highly sensitive people are labelled as sick, unwell, complex, or too much. I saw this daily in my work as a vestibular audiologist in hospital systems.
But what if sensitivity isn’t a weakness —what if it’s a type of body-intelligence that allows for wider perception?
So perception = sensation + interpretation.
Highly sensitive or intuitive people often perceive more layers of reality — subtle cues, emotional tones, energy shifts, or bodily sensations — before others consciously register them.
Their perception is physiological offering a wider bandwidth of awareness.
It is not imagined—these are real body signals.
Sensitives are story keepers and they can read between the cultural lines wherever they go.
Our world needs more intuitive, empathic leaders — people who can sense how to bring wholeness to the place that they are standing in. Direct perception.
We need deep-listeners.
We need people embodying reciprocity between earth and humanity.
We need Sacred-ego, aligned to wholeness and not driven by power-over motivations.
Yet—too often, we are collectively gaslit and told not feel or sense these inconvenient truths.
Sensitive people are frequently not believed, dismissed and shut down.
They are rarely, if ever, trained to use their sensitivity with maturity. This takes a bit of skill—to prevent sensory- emotional-cognitive disorganisation and flooding.
This dilemma can lead to mistrust in their body signals, numbing of their intuition or beautiful sensitivity, and it can turn into stress, worry, self-doubt and illness.
When we sensitive people learn to skilfully listen to our body, we stop burning out and we start living in natural rhythm.
We become grounded, strong, and creatively alive. We return to our natural radiance.
We find safety within our own embodied presence—our personal sanctuary.
We discover our natural leadership and sovereignty—the ability to live as our own inner authority.
That’s what Sensing Ground teaches you— a way to come home to your own natural strength and wisdom. To heed your intuitions and speak them when it feels right to you. 🌿
This is not out of reach!
In fact, Sensing Ground as a process is remarkably simple.
With your body as your compass, your nature will flow with the exact clarity that you need for your life, wherever you are.
I can guide and encourage you to clear the clutter and cultural baggage that may be blocking your inner knowing.
